Waterfall Wedding – Sweet Home, Oregon

Erin and Chris wanted a small intimate wedding that encompassed their mutual love of nature and the outdoors. They planned their wedding in a flash and picked a day that was supposed to have good weather and away we went to McDowell Creek in Sweet Home, Oregon so they could exchange vows in front of a beautiful waterfall. They invited their immediate family and we all hiked down to the waterfall together and witnessed the festivities. I love an adventure and this was a great one. Not long after the wedding a reception was held at Saginaw Vineyard to celebrate with all of their friends and family.

Sweet Cheeks Winery Wedding – Veneta, Oregon

LaDuke Photography Locations SMSweet Cheeks Winery in Veneta, Oregon is a beautiful wedding venue. The patio overlooks the rows and rows of wine grapes in a valley and has a California villa feel to it. I have been catching up on a lot of blogging, but I wanted to share a few quick shots from Brandy and Alan’s summer wedding at one of Oregon’s best vineyards.  Sweet Cheeks Winery Wedding LaDukePhoto.Com-6-13We did the first look just outside the front doors and were able to have a good private moment because the winery closed down early for their ceremony.

Sweet Cheeks Winery Wedding LaDukePhoto.Com-6-8The weather in June was perfect for a wedding. Warm with a slight breeze and partial cloud cover.

Sweet Cheeks Winery Wedding LaDukePhoto.Com-6-11As per usual the boys were goofing off while the girls were getting their hair and make-up finalized.

Brandy’s veil went on for DAYS! The kids spent most of our session tangled up in it!

Mt. Pisgah Engagement Photo Book

LaDuke Photography

Winter in Eugene Oregon can be slow for photographers, but I have been fortunate to be booked solid with sessions and creative projects despite the changing season. Today I wanted to share with you one of the great ways to display your photos and insure that they aren’t just saved on your computer and never looked at again. What good is that amazing photo session if no one else ever sees what it capture, after all? My 5x7in photo books are just the right size to carry with you and show off to friends and family. They come with thick durable pages and amazing print quality. I can’t tell you how many people have fallen in love with the custom designed books that I can provide!

Just take a look at this book of images from Rita and Juan’s Fall Engagement Session at Mount Pisgah. They wanted a way to share the memories of their engagement at their wedding which will also be taking place at Mt. Pisgah Arboretum this summer. This is definitely the ticket and it will make a great companion to their wedding album.

If you would like to see a printed sample of the book you can view photos on this post about Sarah and Chayne’s Spencer Butte Engagement. Prices on my books start at just $60 shipped to you and they come in a whole slew of sizes and finishes. Just ask what I recommend for your photos and I’ll gladly buy you a coffee and show you my samples!

Autumn Engagement Photos – Mount Pisgah

LaDuke PhotographyJuan and Rita picked an amazing spot for their engagement photos, Mount Pisgah Arboretum. It’s actually a place that they love so much that it will also be the site of their wedding reception in July! With the fall colors and their romantic attitudes it was hard to take a bad photo. We spent a little over an hour wandering around the hiking trails, meadows and the area down along the Willamette River. There are so many fun creative photo locations all rolled into one and we barely scratched the surface! I had the nearly impossible task of narrowing down the photos for this blog post. If you don’t check out the full album below you are missing out.

Stewart Family Farm Wedding – Harrisburg, OR

LaDuke PhotographyBri & Bret were married at The Stewart Family Farm in Harrisburg, Oregon this summer and it was GORGEOUS! The weather was threatening all day, but there were no umbrellas at this wedding, just pretty girls in gorgeous mismatched lace bridesmaid dresses. We were rewarded with a beautiful sunset to cap off a wonderful wedding. I have about 100 favorites to narrow down into a wedding slideshow to share with you. Check out the full gallery to see the boys in their superhero shirts, the giant old oak tree they were married in front of, and, if you look carefully you may even find a hungry bison.

Skinners Butte Wedding Photos – The Buchers

I’ve been so busy photographing weddings in Eugene and Spokane this summer that I have somewhat fallen behind on sharing the big pretty blog posts full of creative fun wedding photos. Pinterest junkies rejoice! I’ve got some great eye candy from Rachel and Oskar’s wedding earlier this summer.  We’ve got feather bouquets, intimate portraits in mossy trees, the groomsmen acting silly, and a great big wedding party in a gorgeous church! The wedding was held at Wesley United Methodist and the formal wedding portraits were taken at the top of Skinners Butte.  The bride and groom left their reception at Corbin Center with a fun exit with bubbles even! Eugene is such a beautiful city and even though the weather threatened us right up until the ceremony we had a great time. I can’t wait to do more weddings here in the Eugene & Springfield area!

Megan and Quinton’s Spokane Skate Park Graffiti Wedding

Urban graffiti wedding photos? Well, you don’t see that every day! Megan and Quinton gave me the awesome opportunity to capture something truly unique prior to their wedding at La Belle Vie in Spokane Valley! When our mutual friend Tyler sent them my way I couldn’t wait for their wedding day to happen. They told me right off the bat that they wanted some unconventional wedding photos in addition to the traditional poses. I couldn’t argue with that! Over the course of the last six months or so Megan, Quinton and I have been exchanging photos of graffiti under bridges and down dark alleyways. Not your standard couple at the altar poses. As a creative mind I loved every moment of it! We met up at The Spokane Parkade for an unveiling ceremony and then booked it over to Spokane’s UTF (Under The Freeway) Skate Park before their beautiful ceremony at La Belle Vie in Spokane Valley. I’m hoping to have a complete wrap upposted soon, but until then please enjoy these unique wedding photos!

Hiring a Second Photographer Vs. Assistant – Wedding Photography

“What’s the difference between a second photographer and an assistant” and “Should I have a Second Photographer at my wedding?” are two of my most frequently asked questions and it’s time they get their own blog!

The Second Photographer

A second photographer is a trained wedding and event photographer who is able to work independently to accurately capture the intricate details of your wedding day. My second photographers are usually independent wedding photographers themselves and my years of experience have taught me how to be very selective in choosing who to work with. I look for someone with a style similar to my own, but with a unique eye that will help to deliver a slightly different perspective to your photos.

One of the most important aspects of a having second photographer is our ability to give you greater photo coverage and depth. While my second photographer focuses on the Groom and Groomsmen getting ready (or sneaking off to toss a football or what have you), I’m able to spend most of my time with the Bride and Bridesmaids to capture every intricate detail. Also, using a second photographer for the ceremony allows us to capture multiple angles to ensure that we don’t miss the perfect shot while minimizing how much we need to move around.

When it comes time for the posed and bridal party shots, the second photographer generally plays the role of my assistant, but also continues to capture those candid and personal shots that may otherwise be missed.

The Assistant

The assistant is essentially a “photographer in training” and their purpose is to be with me at all times to help with lighting, organization, and workflow. For the larger photos (bridal party, family, etc.), they are my second set of eyes. They look for loose strands of hair, misplaced hands, and other imperfections. Depending on their skill level an assistant may take candid photos or detail shots, but their overall role is still an assistant capacity. They mind my equipment and carry my ladder so I can get all of the best angles. They get to move around light stands and chase down your groomsmen or grandparents who wandered off to visit with guests and family. An assistant is very helpful to me, but they rarely increase the amount of finished wedding photos that you receive and they don’t necessarily do a whole lot to speed up the formal wedding photography process. This can be a big concern if you are doing your formal wedding photos during a rushed cocktail hour.

At your wedding there are so intricate details and moments to capture. No matter how talented a photographer is, a second shooter will always make a positive contribution to your wedding day. Even if you are on the fence about it, you know you want to give yourself every opportunity to get the best photos possible. I highly recommend adding a second photographer to your wedding package. You only get married once, so make sure I’ve got you covered from every angle!
