At first I resisted, but persistent friends, family and clients convinced me that I had a chance. Now I happily capture important moments for clients all over the Pacific Northwest.

Trash the Dress Session at Priest Lake, Idaho

LaDuke Photography Locations SM

I know I say it frequently, but I LOVE MY JOB! Earlier this year I grabbed a couple of my favorite assistants (Thanks Kaitlyn and Nick!) and trekked up to Priest Lake to help Melissa and Craig trash their wedding clothes. Earlier this year we met them at the same place for their wedding. It’s great that they love the lake so much that they had me up twice to capture their memories. Trash the Dress sessions are becoming more and more common as the cost of dresses becomes reasonable and as many mothers aren’t expecting their daughters to wear their dresses. No offense to my mother, but I am glad I wont be wearing her dress if I tie the knot.

Now on to the photos! You can’t tell, but it was cold and windy and it even rained on us a bit! nothing could dampen the mood though. enjoy this small sampling of photos and click here to see my couples session pricing.

Rustic Spokane Wedding – LaDuke Photography Review

LaDuke Photography

Word of mouth advertising is wedding photographer’s best friend. I love when my clients have amazingly sweet things to say about working with me. I’ve been meaning to post this review of my wedding photography from Kristina for a long time and now here it is! Her rustic wedding was at her parent’s home near Saltese Flats just South of Spokane Valley.

“I usually don’t write these things but I feel it is my duty to share the amazing experience I had with LaDuke Photography.

One thing that stands out with Lacey is her ability to let you live in the moment and her unique ability to capture these moments without having to stop for the photo op. I never once thought I need to stop what I was doing and smile for the camera to get that “perfect photo.” Looking through my wedding album I am happy to say all the moments she captured are truly genuine.

She is also extremely accommodating. She was able to work around my crazy schedule and was there to help me plan every step of the way. She even waited in line at the post office for 30 minutes to make sure my photos arrived in time for Christmas. How many people can say the have a photographer that would do that for them?

Lacey has a true talent for matching her photography approach to each individual brides ideas! She was a huge help in all aspects of my wedding! We couldn’t have done it without you Lacey!”

Seriously, every time I read this I just BEAM knowing that my clients love working with me as much as I love working with them. If you enjoyed working with me please consider reviewing me on Google, Wedding Wire, Thumbtack or if you are a Yelp user I’m on there too. Word of mouth is such a vital part of my business so I appreciate every kind word!

Autumn Inspired Wedding – Beacon Hill Spokane

LaDuke Photography

Fall is a magical time for a wedding. Rich warm colors, golden light and the crisp air makes Autumn weddings something special. I’m feeling nostalgic and wanted to share this great wedding from Beacon Hill in Spokane last year. Aryn and Nathan have been married for a year now, but I always find myself going back to their album when I want to share something warm and fall-esque. Her flowers, the cake, the venue, everything went together so well! And that cake that was made by Nathan’s mom is STILL my favorite to date! If you are looking for inspiration for your outdoor fall wedding before to follow the link at the bottom to view their entire wedding album. It is still one of my top favorite weddings to have been a part of!

Highland Gardens Wedding Photography – Deer Park, WA

Highland Gardens just west of Deer Park, Washington is one of the most beautiful wedding venues in the Spokane area. It has a lovely manicured lawn surrounding a pond full of frogs and turtles with a beautiful white arbor right in front of the cattails. There are also tall birch tress, swings, and this lovely tall grass field that made for wonderful golden hour wedding portraits. Being able to take Kayla and Steven only yards away from the festivities to do posed bridal portraits was a great relief. It’s always a challenge to pull a bride off of a dance floor or a groom away from his buddies. Having everything right there at my finger tips made my life so much easier. I have so many beautiful photos to share from their wedding day. Keep an eye on this blog to see a beautiful first look, some amazing ceremony photos and some great wedding party poses.
More posts are soon to follow. I just need to narrow down my favorites from the first look photos, ceremony and the reception! If you haven’t liked me on Facebook yet do so to see my latest work!

Strick Wedding at Red Barn Farms in Colton, Washington

It’s been a busy couple of weeks, but I’m finally home and ready to share! I ended my two weeks of working out of town with John and Alli’s wonderful wedding in Colton Washington. The Ceremony took place at St. Gall Church and the reception was held at Red Barn Farms. The weather was perfect, the food  by Happy Day Catering was amazing and everything went so smoothly! Between the unveiling ceremony at Red Barn Farms, the Catholic mass and wedding ceremony at St. Gall, posed photos with the Impala on the Palouse and the amazing reception with the super fun and energetic Dudley Manlove Quartet I’ve got so many images to sort through and share, but here’s a little teaser!

Hiring a Second Photographer Vs. Assistant – Wedding Photography

“What’s the difference between a second photographer and an assistant” and “Should I have a Second Photographer at my wedding?” are two of my most frequently asked questions and it’s time they get their own blog!

The Second Photographer

A second photographer is a trained wedding and event photographer who is able to work independently to accurately capture the intricate details of your wedding day. My second photographers are usually independent wedding photographers themselves and my years of experience have taught me how to be very selective in choosing who to work with. I look for someone with a style similar to my own, but with a unique eye that will help to deliver a slightly different perspective to your photos.

One of the most important aspects of a having second photographer is our ability to give you greater photo coverage and depth. While my second photographer focuses on the Groom and Groomsmen getting ready (or sneaking off to toss a football or what have you), I’m able to spend most of my time with the Bride and Bridesmaids to capture every intricate detail. Also, using a second photographer for the ceremony allows us to capture multiple angles to ensure that we don’t miss the perfect shot while minimizing how much we need to move around.

When it comes time for the posed and bridal party shots, the second photographer generally plays the role of my assistant, but also continues to capture those candid and personal shots that may otherwise be missed.

The Assistant

The assistant is essentially a “photographer in training” and their purpose is to be with me at all times to help with lighting, organization, and workflow. For the larger photos (bridal party, family, etc.), they are my second set of eyes. They look for loose strands of hair, misplaced hands, and other imperfections. Depending on their skill level an assistant may take candid photos or detail shots, but their overall role is still an assistant capacity. They mind my equipment and carry my ladder so I can get all of the best angles. They get to move around light stands and chase down your groomsmen or grandparents who wandered off to visit with guests and family. An assistant is very helpful to me, but they rarely increase the amount of finished wedding photos that you receive and they don’t necessarily do a whole lot to speed up the formal wedding photography process. This can be a big concern if you are doing your formal wedding photos during a rushed cocktail hour.

At your wedding there are so intricate details and moments to capture. No matter how talented a photographer is, a second shooter will always make a positive contribution to your wedding day. Even if you are on the fence about it, you know you want to give yourself every opportunity to get the best photos possible. I highly recommend adding a second photographer to your wedding package. You only get married once, so make sure I’ve got you covered from every angle!

A New Year’s Eve Wedding at LaBelle Vie in Greenacres, Washington

On New Year’s Eve of 2011 I had the privilege of photographing Whitney & Chase’s themed wedding at La Belle Vie in Greenacres, Washington. I’d been planning for this winter wedding for months! The Bride and Groom had so many fantastic ideas that I couldn’t wait to see in action. After all, who doesn’t love a Mafia Themed Wedding! Everything came together beautifully; from the hospitality of the fairly new venue, to the homemade pink lemonade wedding cake and custom altar built by the grooms family. Despite the cold, wet, and dark weather; La Belle Vie provided a warm inviting backdrop that went well with the mafia themed outfits for the groomsmen… right down to the awesome pool and card tables in the “man cave”.

Winter weddings are always fun, but shooting in a single building venue poses a challenge to even the most experienced wedding photographers. You always have to remain vigilant to make sure the bride and groom don’t accidentally interact. For a wedding like this, I like to utilize a second photographer to make sure that someone is always on guard. For this Spokane wedding, I was able to focus on the bridesmaids getting ready in the upstairs bridal area while my second photographer kept the groomsmen occupied with posed photos in the “man cave”. Everything worked out to perfection and we managed to keep the groom’s prying eyes off his lovely bride to be!

Unique wedding plans? Bold ideas and bright colors? Inspiring venues?…Sign me up! LaDuke Photography loves weddings that are as unique and creative as you are!

Wedding Photos Before The Ceremony – Pros and Cons

Your wedding day is one of the most important and possibly, one of the most hectic days of your life. Everything has to be planned perfectly, time has to be managed to the second, and the unexpected has to be dealt with in record time. This is why an increasing number of brides are doing the majority of the posed, family, and bride and groom wedding photos prior to the ceremony. Even thought it breaks from the traditional approach, you’ll find that it helps to make your day much less chaotic. As a Spokane, WA and Eugene, OR wedding photographer, I definitely recommend this practice, but there are always Pros and Cons to consider before you make the final decision.

Pros to Wedding Photos Prior to the Ceremony

  • Hair and makeup is fresh and crisp. If you’re one who tends to cry at weddings, your wedding is probably no exception and we don’t want to mess up your eye makeup before the portraits.
  • The more time you have set aside, the more photos you get. Limiting yourself to a rushed hour between the ceremony and the reception is stressful and reduces the amount of quality photos you will get with your spouse.
  • Prior to the ceremony everyone (bridal party and immediate family) is in one place. If you do the photos post-ceremony, people tend to wander off, visit with friends, or complete important tasks prior to the reception.

Cons to Wedding Photos Before the Ceremony

  • Couples forego the traditional approach and cast aside the superstitions involved with seeing the bride before the ceremony.
  • Some couples fear that the magic of the “first look” isn’t the same as when the groom sees the bride walking down the aisle for the first time. Although, a pre-ceremony ‘unveiling’ ceremony can help to capture that special moment.
  • The photo time between the ceremony and reception is skipped, taking away a sometimes much needed “break” from the festivities.

Are Pre-Ceremony Wedding Photos Worth It? You Decide

Ultimately, when all is said and done, the choice is yours… It’s your wedding day after all, right? My goal as a Spokane, WA and Eugene, OR wedding photographer is to give the best advice I can to help your special day run smoothly. I always respect a bride and grooms wishes and will support any decision they choose.

Be sure to check out the Follow-Up to This Article, “Wedding Photos Before the Ceremony – The New Trend”. I’ll be offering additional reasons on why brides are taking wedding photos before the ceremony.
